The Power of Forgiveness
revessie at yahoo.com Sept 16, 2009
A. What is the definition of forgiveness?
1. Greek Aphiemi - to send forth, send away, to remit, to forsake, lay
aside, leave, and let along.
2. Greek Apoluo - To free fully, relieve, release, dismiss, depart, let
die,
pardon, or divorce, forgive, let loose, release, and set at liberty.
3. Greek Charizomai - to bestow a favor unconditionally
4. Aphesis - Denotes a dismissal, a release.
5. Hebrew - Nacah - to lift. Calach - to forgive, pardon, spare.
6. Wilson's old testament word studies - to cover, pardon, make
atonement.
Sin of presumption in which we've all presumed.
To bear, take, accept, take away guilt.
a. Summary: To forgive is to send away, set aside one's sin, to
release that person from the punishment due. To let the matter die and to
release and set at liberty that person unconditionally. To bring you and
that person into an atonement, to forgive is to release that person of the
debt they owe you. It is not saying that the other person IS right.
B. Effects of unforgiveness:
1. Breaks fellowship with God. Mat 6:14-15 Without forgiving our
sins still remain. Trespass "paraptoma" a false step, a blunder, to fall
away,
an offence, to sin. Mat 6:12 uses the word debts which is something that
is
owed.
2. Unforgiveness is sin. James 2:12, Is 59:2, Ps 66:18 John 9:31. It
also cuts your faith from God Mark 11:24-26 "If you have an ought against
any".... Anyone you have resentment against. James 5:15-16 You do not
receive healing or deliverance.
3. Opens the door to satan and tormentors. 2 Cor 2:6-11, John 20:23
Remit "ophiemi" forgive, to send away. Matt 18:23-35 Who are the
tormentors? Demons. Mat 4:24, Mat 5:23-26 In verse 25, "agree"
"lunoeo" to be well-minded, well disposed, reconcile. / Brings fear. 1
John
4:18.7 Brings confusion and every evil work James 3:167
C. We are called to forgive Luke 17:3-4, Matt 18:21-22, Colossians 3:13
1. Unforgiveness causes us to not communicate like a young child,
"I'll hold my breath!" Childishness. It wants that person to pay and you
will persue them with un unfair passion just to make them pay.
You are trying to make yourself better than God when you don't forgive.
Lam3:23
