Fanny Crosby lost her sight at age six weeks due to what today would be 
considered scarlet fever.  Apparently she had developed an eye infection for 
which an untrained doctor prescribed hot poultices.  This info is found in 
the book "Memories of 80 Years" by Fanny Crosby.  Paul
