[Faith-talk] wife beating in Islam

Joshua,
  Bahais aren't Muslims at all, they are a totally separate
religion-that's like saying Christians are Jews.  Radical
Sunis and Shiites, just like radical Christians, are the ones causing
the problems.  There are peaceful Sunis and Shiites both here and in
the Middle East.
  And, yes, women are treated terribly in many parts (but not all) of
the middle east.  Lots of that has to do with the cultures that were
there before Islam came-and maybe it's a legitimate criticism of Islam
that it hasn't changed those cultures more.  But, even so, when you
compare how women were treated under Islam when Muhammad (peace be
upon him) was on the earth with how women were treated in medieval
Europe...I think you'll find Islam was far more charitable.
