[Faith-talk] Getting Christian materials from Google books

Hello all,
I was pleasantly surprised to find that e books purchased through the google books site are accessible with a screen reader. This was the only place I was able to find an accessible copy of the book my small group is reading, since it was published in April and is perhaps an obscure book on an obscure topic.

To get materials this way, go to the google books site: books.google.com
Enter the title/author/whatever search you want and it will pull up a list of results. Click on the title of the book and it will take you to an overview page for that book. This page contains info about the book, like publisher, number of pages, reviews, and a section where you can preview the text of some pages. As far as I can tell, this preview section is not accessible. However, if you click the "Add to my library" link and then pay for the book, you will be able to read it. You have the option of downloading it onto your computer and using any epub reader, like Adobe Digital Editions which has a version optimized for Jaws. Or you can just read the book from the google books website, which I prefer. If you have an iPod/iphone/ipad you can also download your library onto your device and read your books from there. I thought this was a great option for getting access to new materials in a timely manner.

Let me know if you guys have more questions about this. I have only purchased the one book so far, but I have loved how well it has worked.

>> There are plenty of sources for Christian material in an accessible format. And if the book you are looking for isn't available in one of the above resources, you can always try getting it electronically through google books. I had to do this with the book my small group is reading and it is perfectly accessible.
