[Faith-talk] my intro

Hi when I was a young girl I started to attend a small baptist church in our city and I was invited by the lady that transcribed our lessons in to braille for the public school system. That invitation opened up a whole new world for me. I had sunday school lesson in braille and my church ordered me a braille bible. I was accepted in all of the ways that mattered. I attended youth group and sang in the choir. My mother would read the hymns to me and I would make copies for myself as well as others that were blind. I saw god working in the lives of theese christians and it made christianity real and tangible. I don't always see us living our faith in tangible ways as much as we all should and it makes me sad. We should be jesus eyes hand an feet as well as his mouth to people that need his peace.

Felicia,
Thanks for the note. I'm not alone in my frustration then.
I grew up Christian. When going to church, I was very fortunate that my
Sunday school got braille materials for me. They were in comb binding books
on that plastic paper; not sure where it was from though. Anyway, this
allowed me to read the
story with everyone else. I didn't have a braille bible at the time, so I
listened to everyone else read. If we had to read silently, someone read to
me away from the group and I rejoined them afterward.
Later I found out we could get a free braille Bible so we got it for me.
I think my sunday school teachers did a pretty good job including me. Also,
my Methodist church got me braille hymnals. The disadvantage is that I
cannot stand with everyone and sing if I'm reading a braille hymnal in my
lap. At least I have a copy and can sing though.

I wasn't as well included in youth events though. Overall, though, I did
most religious activities like my brothers did.

As with most things, Christian books, magazines, newsletters, devotionals,
etc are in print.
There must be like five Christian bookstores near me; some are in the mall;
some are combined with music so its a Christian music and bookstore.
Despite the digital age where much is online or bought on Amazon, Christian
bookstores seem to be doing pretty well.
But I cannot access them.
