[Faith-talk] special needs ministry

Fortunately we have a very few who get it. It's just frustrating when you
can't go to any group things because no one really talks to your kids.
Their behavior is so maladaptive and they don't seem to care that they don't
fit in but it's near to impossible for us to be able to take them anywhere
and enjoy it.
Off this subject, we have two houses around us that are up for sale and
we're praying that God will bring us neighbors who get autism and aren't
terrified of the blindness issue either.

Let every nation know whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay
any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose
any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.--John

Perhaps most of us don't care to be in the category of "special needs" just
because we are blind.
I'll acknowledge that intellectual disabilities require a special approach,
but somehow we want the church to be a place where everyone belongs, and
everyone serves.
A few people get it, but not many.
I think it will always be up to us to teach our brothers and sisters what it
takes for us to belong, and how we wish to serve others.
Maybe, Barbara, if you can find someone who gets it in your church, that
person can be an advocate for your family.
If even a few people begin to understand how to practice hospitality, our
churches will become more welcoming places.
Blessings,
Tom
