It's just another one of those traditional sayings, that needs to go.
Why do Christians sing this hymn?
"Pass me not, Oh gentle Savior."
Jesus said, to us, that he'd never leave us, nor forsake us.
He's always with us.
He'll never pass us by.
The prayer should be, "Lord, don't let us pass you by!"
