I am praying for you and your giving up of your retired guide dog. May
each day be comforting as God gets you through this.
God bless,
Felicia

This response isn't directed at Patrick, but to everyone in general. Give
Jenny a break. Making the transition from dog back to cane isn't an easy
one. As Patrick pointed out, your skills get rusty if you aren't using them
often. When I retired my first dog, it took some time for me to regain the
confidence I had with my cane. The information you get is completely
different and perhaps overwhelming at first. I eventually found that
working with a guide dog had helped me advance my independent travel with a
cane. I had learned to depend more on audio and environmental cues than
tactile ones because they aren't as readily available with a dog. This only
enhanced my skill set when I returned to the cane.

Jenny, I'm sorry to hear about your dog. I will pray for comfort and wisdom
as you make this transition. I ended up using a cane only for 3 years after
retiring my first dog and just recently went back for a second. To be sure,
the transition from cane to dog again was also a challenge. Hang in there
and I'm sure things will get better.
