RJ, congratulations on your graduation and doctorate.  What you said 
reminded me of the old saying that was quite popular back in the 70's: 
"Bloom where you're planted." I think that was the title of a popular 
Christian song of the day.  But its message can be applied for today:  If 
the Lord plants you in a particular ministry, no matter how ordinary or 
mundane it may seem to you, know that He has big things in store for you 
and, according to His good pleasure, can magnify your service to Him for His 
honor and glory.  Paul
