Hello and good day to most of you on this Saturday, the day before we corporately worship God in our respective Christian assemblies and churches. I hope that you are all doing well.

As promised yesterday in the Daily Thought message, here's an original poem-song that I'd like to share with you as a tribute to my mother and, as you read and ponder the words, you can also think of your own mothers, whether living or dead. If you know the tune to "What A Friend We Have In Jesus," you can sing along with the words if you're able. When the Lord gave me the words on the occasion of my Mom's 90th birthday and I had them copyrighted, most people didn't want me to use my real name, so I chose the name of V.R. Furgeson, even though that's not my given name. I was told that this name would sell better than my own one. However, I left it up to the Lord to do with this little reminiscence what He desires to do. Anyway the title of this poem is "What A Friend We Have In Mother," rendered as follows:

What a friend we have in mother;
One who loves and always cares.
So unselfish, thoughtful, tender,
With her life, her time, and prayers.
Oh, how much we often forfeit
By our failure to be kind.
Oh, the times we caused her heartache,
To her counsel paid no mind.

Have we trials and temptations,
Is there sorrow, doubts and fears?
Mother understands and comforts;
Kisses away the pain and tears.
Should we find a friend more faithful,
Who will share our grief and joy?
Mother ever has her "baby";
Woman, girl, or man, or boy.

God reveals His love in mothers;
In this wide world everywhere.
Though your friends despise, forsake thee,
In her arms and heart you're there.
Lord, I thank Thee now for mother,
All I am or hope to be
Nothing of myself is worthy,
Owing all to her and Thee.

Folks, as you can tell, it wasn't a box of chocolates or fancy flowers that I presented Mom with, but only with this poem. She expressed her thanks in this way: My gift was one from the heart, rather than from the pocketbook. Many of you read this poem last year, but many are reading it for the first time. I hope and pray that these humble words, written from a grateful heart, were a blessing to you today.

And now may the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob just keep us safe, individually and collectively, in these last days in which we live. Tomorrow there will be the usual weekly Bible game, so get your thinking caps ready. Your Christian friend and brother, Paul
