Well, not to get into a big discussion here, but Catholics do not
necessarily believe that every word of the Bible is literally
true. For example, some people believe that when Creation
happened, it was in seven literal 24 hour days. But we really
don't know for sure how long a "day" was. That God created the
Earth and everything on it is not in question. What is in
question is how, exactly that happened. Do we believe that the
Bible is inerrant and inspired by God? Yes, but it is not a
science text, nor a history book. Many cradle Catholics do not
have the habit of reading Scripture. One of the real blessings
that is happening within the Catholic Church now is that there
are many converts from various other faith backgrounds who have
grown up reading Scripture and are bringing with them that
enthusiasm and love of Scripture. People are being encouraged to
read Scripture. And if someone goes to Daily Mass, there are
Scriptures read every day. There are Bible studies too in many
parishes. Well, I'll jump down from my soapbox now. I gotta get
out of here and go get my day started. Blessings, Debby and
Neena
