Hi, all,

Gee, the exchange about the Top Ten seems to have prompted yet more healthy 
discussion--halleluiah! I, too, was a preemie by 3 months--a big, major deal 
in the mid-60's, and had a ten-percent chance of living--so we know Who made 
that decision! It wasn't just my strong will--which, BTW, I do have and 
consider an asset. To the lister who said that they had never gone wrong by 
making their own choices and going their own way: I didn't mean to imply, by 
my previous posting, that we are automatons--far from it: if we are like God 
(who has free will), then we, by nature, also have free will. Both good and 
bad choices can be made via that will, but the bonus in trusting God is 
that, whatever our choices, they can be used for good, whatever the negative 
outcomes also are.

Back to commenting on all things working together for good: So many things 
that seemingly were supposedly not going to work out for me have, both in my 
pre-Christian years and those after. In an era where mainstreaming was just 
beginning, I ended up in a fabulous nursery school with sighted peers, and 
although I got made fun of later for it, I am heartily glad I got held back 
from kindergarten an additional year, because it built on a social-skills 
foundation I badly needed, as a then-undiagnosed Aspergian. Attended public 
school, and was able to keep the very itinerant teacher who worked with me 
on most blindness skills from the time I was 3 'til nearly 19, though my 
high school tried to make it so that I would lose her (and then, had the 
gall to hint that I would need an aide to navigate the hallways with--based 
on their experience with one blind kid who also had some developmental 
issues, though, with the exception of junior high, I had a good academic 
track record and had been walking the halls, cane in hand, from early 
elementary school). Then, I had two stints in college, studying youth 
ministry and blind rehabilitation, and several jobs (lasting, unfortunately, 
no more than slightly over 3 years--but when I see what other blind people 
go through vocationally, I feel blessed to have had the 5 jobs I've had). I 
had originally been declined for my youth ministry internship, but after 
appealing the decision, I was welcomed in with open arms--even to the point 
where the mother of one of our supers was a Braille transcriber and was able 
to prepare the materials I needed before I set foot in the experience! 
Accident? No way! When I interned in youth work, I busted a leg, but was 
able to still participate in most aspects, and got a really good paper out 
of it about how God was able to show Himself strong as I recovered. Recent 
milestones include continuing to submit newsletter submissions for my 
church; making a connection with someone who knows someone who is a major 
figure in a local vocational agency for people with developmental 
challenges, for which I hope to end up volunteering; experimenting with 
produce from a family I used to be neighbors with, which has helped stretch 
my usually-strapped budget; and starting to overcome chronic anxiety over 
financial issues (a true milestone, considering God and I have been slowly 
and steadily working on anxiety since my conversion at 16). And much, much 
more. BTW, thanks for the opportunity to count my many blessings--this is 
also helping me!

Hello and greetings to all my fellow astute Bible students out there.
I hope that your day is going well and, if you read this message after
you came home from your respective houses of worship, that you had a
good time with the Lord and in fellowship with your fellow local 
congregants.

Today's Bible trivia game poem is from the Old Testament.  If it
weren't for one line I'd have no clue as to the Bible book and chapter
on which this poem is based.  In fact, to complicate the situation, the
author of the book ministered at the same time as another prophet.  But
let's not lose too much time.  You're waiting for the poem, and here it is.

But, at the last, will His house be restored.
Nations will flock to the house of the Lord.
He will judge softly, or strongly reprove.
Able to rescue, or crush, or remove.

And there you have this week's Bible trivia game poem based on a book
and chapter of the Old Testament.  Remember that all I have here is
from Song of Songs to Malachi.

Until next week when, Lord willing another poem will be posted, then
based on a book and chapter of the New Testament, may the God of
Abraham, Isaac and Jacob just keep us safe, individually and
collectively, in these last days in which we live.  Your Christian

Good afternoon.

On this date of 8/28 what came to my mind was Romans 8:28.  We are told in
this verse that all things work together for good for those of us who are
called by Christ's purpose.

It can sometimes be difficult for us to see how this can be, especially
given some of the obstacles we encounter as people who are blind or visually
impaired.

What might be interesting would be stories of how our faith resulted in
something working out for good in our lives that was unexpected because of
it, and that might not otherwise have taken place.  I don't have one that
immediately jumps to mind, thought I would like to hear the inspirations of
others in this regard, and then I might be able to insert something that
fits.

Hi all,
Even as a child, before I became a Christian, I prayed and had faith that
God would get me out of the country where I could not be independent. One
day, Someone from Columbus, the Capitol of my state of Ohio called the
regular public school I was in and asked them if they had someone disabled
at their school. The state rehab was just calling public schools at random,
they said. Well, my school in the country told them about me. Someone came
up to my little town and really got on the school to pay for cane mobility
lessons for me, and my good grades allowed the state to pay my tuition to go
to The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. While at Ohio State, I
learned about every kind of assistive technology out there. My professors
did not know how to teach me, so I prayed again, not a Christian yet, and
the NFB Stepped in because I was talking to a blind person on campus. He was
a member totally by accident, or was it? The NFB worked with my professors,
and The NFB sent me to a training center where I was traveling around a
large city by myself, I was cooking all of my meals, using the latest
technology out there like the Optacon. This was in the 80s, and the Optacon
was like no other technology invented. I became a Christian, I had many many
people cross my path at Ohio State who helped me see the full truth of the
Bible so I could obey the saving message of Jesus and come to him and have
my sins washed clean. People constantly told me that I was like everyone
else, and I was not like any other blind person they ever met. I received my
degree in Mathematics. When I was little, and my parents told me I would
have to live with them the rest of my life, I always thought about how I can
do math in my head, and that might get me somewhere, but I had no idea how.
So, here I am with a BS in mathematics, and nobody would hier me. I just
happened to meet someone in a restaurant with a math tutoring business for
the blind. I tutored there for a few years, and then I started my own
business of tutoring mathematics with the help of people that came out of no
where. Keep in mind, that I had developed a very strong one on one, intimate
relationship with Jesus, where he talked to me, and I talked with him. I
would get on my knees every night about a wife. Well, listen to this. I
played a bible trivia show on the radio. A hoast asked Bible questions, and
people could call in and answer them. Well, one night, Traci, my feuture
wife, could not sleep, and she began turning the radio dile. She heard my
voice of me calling into this show, and she stopped turning the dial,
because she really thought my voice was special and that I might be the
Christian husband she had been looking for for years. Well, she had no idea
where I was located, or how she would get a hold of me. Three months later,
her car broke down, and she had to ride the Columbus public bus for the
first time in her life. She had to ride the bus clear to the other end of
town where I lived. Well, I was with a friend, and we let two buses go by,
because he wanted to finish his coffee. We got on the third bus, and that
was the bus Traci was on clear on the other end of the city from where she
lived. She heard my voice as I talked with my friend, and she knew that I
was the guy from the radio. She moved across from me, and she asked me if I
was David from the radio show. I was, of course, and she had just moved, and
she did not have a phone yet. I gave her my phone number not expecting her
to call, because no women did who I gave my number to. She did call, and we
talked for 9 hours the first time we talked. We were married in four years.
She is sighted, is a great driver, she totally forgets that I am blind and
hands me stuff to read LOL! She sees me as a real man who can provide for
her and keep her safe. Again, her name is Traci, and her relationship with
Jesus is as strong or stronger than mine. The Lord has allowed us to be
taken through trials that you cannot imagine, and the Lord has gotten us
through them all. We have been able to encourage more and more people
through our faith. Her father died right before we were married, Her nephew
killed himself at 22, I had panic attacks and bad OCD for the first 7 years
of our marriage, and now, I am totally healed, and on and on. We have trials
everyday, and Jesus gets us through all of them., and people walk up to
Traci and I, total strangers, and tell us that they see real peace in us. We
have helped so many people because of what we have been through. I have so
many sighted friends who never bring up my blindness, because they forget
about it. I run around the city, some days, without a cane. It is as though
my feet know where to step. I can walk into a strange building, and find my
way, almost like I have been there before. Jesus and I talk everyday, and I
ask him to show me the purpose he has for my life everyday. I hope this
encourages every blind person out there, because I am human proof that your
blindness does not have to stop you from living a total normal life. I have
a MA in mathematics education, and my academic advisor thought I could not
get through the program. I have proven everyone wrong about what they
thought I could not do. The Lord has caused me and has given me his power to
do the impossible. You and every blind person out there can have the same
quality of life. I love being blind. I really love it, because it hasn't
stopped me in any way, and I can encourage so many people just by walking
down the street and talking to them. So many people have been incouraged by
my blindness. God has been able to use me much more being blind, than if I

Hi Bill and all, great idea! So here goes. I was blind from birth, due 
!being premature. Was supposed !be born in April, but was born in January. 
My parents lived an hour or so from town, so it was great timing on God's 
part, ?grin?. that my mom went !visit her best friend. She started !n feel 
well, so went !the hospital. I was born in Sacred Heart Hospital. All my 
life, I can see how God touched me, walked with me, cared for me. Little 
things, like me boving hymns, even though my family wasn't reY a churchgoing 
family. They played hymns sometimes at night while I was at the School 
forthe Blind in Oregon. I went !Sunday School from the time I was five. 
There were times when I reY felt close !Jesus. When I was sixteen I truly 
accepted Him as Savior and Lord. I ran inffsome young Christians who were 
part of a "Jesus Freak" youth cinistry. This ministry was !play a big part 
in my life, until its demise, and I still have many friends who are part of 
it. It was called Shiloh Youth Revival Center, or for us, just Shiloh. God 
has always shone Himself in my life.

In the fall of 1981, I began !reY feel doawn !the Catholic Church. I began 
taking classes at a local parish, and in 1982, I was received inffthe 
Catholic Church. There are so many details that I can't share because it 
would take too long. But I will share one incident. Later after I had been 
Cathelic for several years, I began graduate studies at Mount Angel Seminary 
in Oregon. One of my friends there is a man named John. John is a very holy 
man, but full of warmth and humor, and one ofthe kindest people I ever knew. 
He was part ofthe Catholic CHARISMATIC Renewal. He told me one day that he 
had been praying for me, andthe Lord told him that one of the nuns at Sacred 
Heart Hospital baptized me as a baby. She was afraid that I would not make 
it, because I was so tiny. Then she began !pray for me, because she thought 
I would be raised in a home with no faith. It doesn't matter !me whether you 
believe this or not. I know that it is true, that she did baptize me. I am 
the only member of my family who is Catholic. In fact, most of my family 
aren't reY Christian at all. But because of this, I am led "the Lord every 
day in my life, ?x's not His fault that I get sidetracked from time !time?. 
He is very much in my life. I love the Lord so much, and am so blessed in 
all that He has blessed me with. Yes, I go through trials, suffer from time 
!time, but this draws me closer !Hm.??? Blessings,??? Debby P.S. And I 
haven't even tabked about my awesome husband, who I met on a bus. If I were 
sighted, I would maybe have never met him.

Great verse.  Dave and Debby, it was good to read your stories.
Debby, like you I was supposed to be born in April, but was born

matter where you live.  I hope that my continental list members had a
good sleep last night.  Mine was so-so, and that's all I can say for that.
