[Faith-talk] Terminology

You spoke well Sarah. I can only speak for my church, but I know my pastor makes her sermons very applicable to today and how we can apply it to our every day lives. I do know a pastor here in Madison who only focuses on application and not scripture. That is very wrong! Sadly that is the congregation that I was baptized into as a baby. I am happy to say that people are leaving that church quickly. Most are seeing through the smoke and mirrors – definitely a false prophet. It isn't the whole United Church of Christ, just this one Pastor.

You know Linda, I think if we all sat down and had an ecumenical conversation you would find that we who call ourselves Christians are very much alike and read our Bibles more often than you think. I bet Debbie can also attest that Catholics are holding Bible studies now which I never thought would happen.

No matter what, Sundays or Saturdays we all worship the same God. And all Bibles call us to listen for the small voice of God. That call he whispers to us is individual. The word made flesh is still the word to follow. Jesus words. Many times the words that separate Christians are words from the Old Testament. Remember we live in the new life, not the old. Simplistic as it is, I truly believe Jesus would love the catchphrases of the ELCA "always being made new" and "gods work, our hands"

What you are saying here is that obviously I have not done this, or else the Holy Spirit would have led me to understand and to live as you do. What the Holy Spirit led me to understand is that those passages were written within a cultural context that is very important to understand and that in order to understand the Scripture I needed to research that context. I hope that our differing perspectives make better sense now.

It's a big part of the faith which I have, but some can't read about it because they're uncomfortable with what I post. I will refrain, but everyone else here has the freedom to do so. I am not a Greek or Hebrew scholar as others here are.
> Sarah, I wish you would have said I was using those words incorrectly in the first place. You could have been comfortable here a lot sooner had you done so. Now that I know, I will cease to share what I believe to be Biblical teachings, and will no longer share how they are still applicable to us today. If listers are so inclined, and as Christians we all should be, read the Bible for yourselves, and ask that God, through His Holy Spirit, would help you to understand and to live accordingly.
