[Faith-talk] the perfect church

by way of clarification: I have no problem if a particular church modernizes hymns (in the sense of instrumentation, not language), or that does some of the modern praise songs—there are people who have never been exposed to church that that worship style would reach in a really cool way. Also, as to the HS not seeming to be in those churches with rock bands (which I have attended for long periods, BTW): in my experience, it’s sometimes about whether you bring Him in with you; I remember at one point visiting a seriously-conservative Mennonite church my best friend was part of years ago, and yes, I had major problems with the works-oriented, too-strict doctrines, but definitely sensed Him with me, despite (or maybe because of) the setting, in that, I certainly needed the feeling of His presence in a setting where I was doing active spiritual warfare. So, while I would no longer choose to attend a congregation whose music was solely the new praise songs backed by a band, I respect those who do and who are edified by that, and wouldn’t refuse to go if invited on occasion. It’s just not that cut-and-dry for me, I guess. Ah, another AS manifestation: I am super-analytical—which gets me in trouble with, say, taking temperament assessments or other “what would you do if’ kinds of testing: I’m always the one to go, “But, my answer would be A if B is going on; but if C is, the answer would be different.” Speaking of which, has anyone ever done the aneagrams tests—I haven’t, but based on my pastor’s description, might find them interesting and more easily applicable to me.

We’ve also been discussing how there’s the “itching ears” phenomenon going on in many churches. At the risk of possibly being labeled as engaging in such: for a long time, I have been intrigued by what’s known as “inner healing”, and wonder, aside from Xavier, which I know has some material, does anyone know of other sources of accessible inner healing lit and/or presentations online or in audio formats?
