[Faith-Talk] The 2024 Election

Wow, this list really woke up!

I know our church has been having discussions regarding voting.  I hope
everyone votes their conscience as best they can.  I've already voted.  I
think there is nothing new under the sun, and even back in Jesus' day He was
disappointing some followers because He had no interest in taking a
political stand or getting the Romans off everyone's backs; His mission was
to come to save sinners of which I am one, and to die and rise again to pay
the penalty we could not pay, and pave the way for everlasting life for
those of us who believe in Him.  He and Peter got into a discussion about
that, as I recall.  Poor, impulsive Peter, who went from being a man who
spoke and acted before he thought to being one of the strongest disciples
Jesus had.  We don't have control of what comes our way in life, but we do
have control over how we react to it and whether or not we involve God in
our plans, or probably more correctly, whether we involve ourselves in God's
plans.  How we see God determines how we see everything else.  There is so
much wisdom in the Bible and in how Jesus conducted Himself and still does.
One of my favorite verses is Proverbs 3:5-6.  I am trying to be more quick
to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger, and to be in the world but not of the
world.  I know I'm sounding preachy and prideful, but I absolutely don't
mean it like that.  Whatever I do while I am here is enough to take up all
my time, and I don't have time to criticize anyone else, but I hope I speak
the truth in love when I can.  This world is not my home; I'm just passing
through.  If we're looking for perfection, we won't find it here.  I
remember when I was first seriously going to church as a teenager, someone
told me that if I didn't like what was in church, to bring what I did like
with me, and that way it would be there.  That has always stuck with me.

Have a good week, and get out and vote.  Trust God with the outcome.  He has
often used bad leaders for good purposes, and sometimes we get what we
deserve.  Look at King Saul and the many kings of Israel and Judah.  If
Jesus is the King of our lives, we will survive whatever comes, in this
world or the next.
