As a matter of fact, I did get my rate with Tripple A, but they would have 
given me that discount of $59  through AARP, or Florida Resident.  Although 
I am glad to get such a great deal, I do feel that this hotel is doing the 
negotiators of the contract for the convention a huge disservice.  They 
should definitely be brought on the carpet about this, and perhaps even 
threaten some sort of legal action if they are not willing to make some sort 
of accommodation.

    I'm not sure that frugality and honesty are inter-related! It seems as
if the "dishonesty" is on the part of the venue! Group rates should, by
nature, be discounted, as we are guaranteeing sales of a specific number of
room nights. Pat Lapovski got a rate of $59 - $10 off the rack rate -
probably by using another discounting plan, such as AAA or AARP. Why should
we pay a higher rate because we are buying in bulk? That just doesn't make
any sort of sense! JMHO!

I felt a little guilty advising not to say it was for the NFBF convention.

Please pass along the following.

I just called the Holiday Inn (can't remember what it is now called) saying
that I wanted reservations for the Memorial Day weekend and they quoted me a
rack rate of $69. I would strongly encourage all those who are planning on
going to convention to call and make your reservations now. Because we are
having contract issues, we signed with them at a higher rate and must be
held to that, so I would just say you want a reservation and not specify
that it is for the NFBF convention. The rate of $69 is now available and I
would strongly suggest you take advantage of it. Ask for discounts for AARP
and Triple A. Don't go online, just call the local number, which is (407)
351-3500.
