Hello all,

During our FLAGDU Board meeting, President Merry Schoch brought up the fact
that the invasive species of toad, called bufo, cane or marine toad, just
different names for the same species, are especially prolific in South
Florida where we will be holding our state convention. I've done some
digging and found that they are also in southwest and Central Florida. I
have included several links here, so those of us with guide or pet dogs can
learn about these dangerous toads and how to protect our animals.

This first link is a recording of the sound this toad makes as opposed to
other native amphibians. I was dismayed when I heard it, since I now realize
that what I've been hearing in the pond just beyond our backyard fence is
indeed that of those toxic toads.

This next link describes the toad and how this invasive species got to
Florida.

And the last link is a vet or vet tech who gives practical advice on how to
keep your dog from having a disastrous encounter with this huge toad.

Warm regards
