We will explore the loving and unique role of grandparents with “Granny” Alice Raftary (a grandmother with vision loss) and “Grandma” Linda Smatla (a grandmother of a child with vision loss). This Halloween-themed family event is a way to educate the Chicagoland and North Shore community about Hadley's mission and raise funding for courses to serve students like you. We need your help to get the word out! Encourage friends and family in the area to join us for the event or simply donate to the school online. <div><FONT face=Arial><STRONG>Volunteer Opportunity Available</STRONG><br>
Hadley is looking for students who are comfortable speaking standard English (the kind that television broadcasters use) and who have an hour and a half once per month for an exciting volunteer opportunity. <br>
<br>
The Hadley School for the Blind in Fuzhou, China, teaches the English language to over 1,000 students annually. Many of our Chinese students are keenly interested in improving their English. As native English speakers, you can help by chatting with Hadley-China students over the Internet.<br>
<br>
Interested volunteers need:<br>
• A high-speed internet connection<br>
• A microphone and speakers connected to your computer<br>
• The ability to communicate simply, to speak slowly, and to use jargon-free language.<br>
• The ability to patiently listen to people with accents<br>
• The ability to remain calm when communication breakdowns occur<br>
<br>
The sessions take place on Friday nights from 8:00-9:30 p.m. Eastern Time.<br>
