Subject: GOPBC: Exciting, free opportunity at High Museum!
The High Museum of Art is putting together a tour targeted towards
blind and visually impaired children and they have asked for input
from the GOPBC. We are looking at the week of August 22nd. If you
are interested in attending, please reply with the age(s) of your
child(ren), the days you would be available to attend (weekday,
Thursday evening, or Saturday morning), and the number of attendees.
Sighted siblings are welcome to attend as well. The tour is meant for
children in kindergarten through high school. Please forward this to
others who might be interested in attending. Thank you.
Here is the information I received:
The High Museum has been working for the past year or so to develop a
tour of the museum for children with visual impairments. It is called
“Sight Through Sense,” and it is a multi-sensory tour with lots of
touch objects and music.
We really need to pilot this tour again, and I was hoping you might be
able to help us find/get together a group of children. Parents would
absolutely be invited to come along as well. This would be at no cost
to you or the students/parents participating in the tour, we would
just want feedback from you about what worked, what didn’t work, and
how we can improve this tour to make it a more enjoyable and
educational experience for the students.
Sight Through Sense
This tour will allow students with visual impairments to “see”
artworks from the permanent collection by using all of their sense.
Trained guides will use visually descriptive language, tactile
objects, music, and movement activities to explore art from multiple
perspectives.
