HSC FOUNDATION INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
in partnership with The Kennedy Center

The HSC Foundation Internship Program is a unique opportunity to
participate in an internship at one of many cultural arts institutions
around the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The goal of the
Internship is to provide opportunities for individuals to build skills
that enhance their potential for future competitive and professional
employment in a career in the cultural arts. HSC Interns will enjoy
close working relationships with experienced theater and museum
professionals, hands-on training, and the opportunity to be a part of
some of the D.C. area's busiest and most artistically diverse museums,
theaters, and performing arts centers.

Qualifying Applicants will: 

have a documented disability or chronic illness, 
be between the ages of 18 and 25, and 
demonstrate an interest in the cultural arts.

Placements
(Note: Newseum placement job description is located at the end of this
message.)

Selected HSC Interns will be placed at cultural arts organizations in
the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Placements may include work in
the following areas: arts education and outreach, exhibition design,
public relations/marketing, set design, lighting design,
development/grant writing, and house management. A list of current
placements is available through the Kennedy Center's Accessibility
Program. Job qualifications, application requirements, and deadlines
vary.

To Apply

Each applicant must submit the following items to the Kennedy Center's
Accessibility Program: HSC Internship Application Form Resume - Resumes
should include employment, volunteering, internship, and educational
experiences as well as any other experiences relevant to the review of
the application. Please also include computer, office, language or other
skills, and ways in which you have been involved in the cultural arts.
Two (2) Recommendations - Applicants may use the HSC Internship
Recommendation and Reference Form or submit two letters of
recommendation; and Additional materials as required by each placement
site.

all applicants will be offered an internship.

NEWSEUM EDUCATION PROGRAM FACILITATOR INTERN

The Newseum Education Program Facilitator intern works with education
team to create and implement educational programming.  A key figure in
preparation and operation of education programs, the intern will
facilitate education groups receiving customized programming including
but not limited to preparing resources for classes, greeting students
and chaperones upon arrival and assisting groups with scheduled
activities.  Responsibilities will include participating as directed in
implementation of classes and education programs, managing large groups
of students and chaperones, facilitating classes and activities for
students; assisting with daily set up for classes and education
programs, and assisting with record keeping.

Qualifications:
*	Prior experience working with children in a museum or informal
education setting
*	Energetic, outgoing and friendly 
*	Organized, creative and flexible self-starter able to work as
part of a team as well as independently 
*	Ability to solve problems independently and show initiative
*	Customer service skills with visitors of all ages 
*	Must work enthusiastically, respectfully, and professionally
with a wide variety of audiences 
*	Excellent written and oral communication skills
*	Promote a positive learning experience while enforcing museum
procedures

Physical Requirements:
*	Must be able to work in a very physically active environment;
escort large groups of students throughout the building, between floors,
up and down stairs, while maintaining constant supervision over the
entire group; move continuously for extended periods of time; and have
stamina to work and be on the go for periods of up to two hours or more
without breaks.

Start and End Dates: March 2 - June 2009

Hours: 20 hours per week

Stipend: $11.00/hour

Location/Transportation: This placement is at a museum in Washington,
D.C.  The museum is accessible via Metrorail.
