Subject: Passing of Lee Griffith

Lee Griffith passed away last Wednesday at the age of 89. Lee was a
Baltimore SAIL student, then peer teacher from 2001 to 2005. Lee was famous
for his sense of humor, his kindness, and his generosity. He loved to teach
Braille, invent fundraising projects, and find bargains for supply
purchases. Lee spent countless hours as our "telephone ambassador" to
prospective students and seniors new to blindness; he was a kind,
encouraging voice on the other end of the phone. Lee was an excellent
carpenter; while in the SAIL program he made wooden step stools in Wood Shop
for the rehab vans. Most recently, while living at Morningside Assisted
Living, he talked with staff about starting a Braille class for residents;
he believed strongly that everyone losing vision needed to learn Braille no
matter what their age. Lee will be greatly missed, and he will never be
forgotten by all whose lives he touched.
