Subject: middle school student needs help with project

Dear Ms. Riccobono,

My name is Brynna Neal. I am a seventh grade student at Chesapeake Science
Point Charter School in Anne Arundel County. I am currently working on a
science fair project and I am seeking participants to aide in my research.

My project is attempting to study visually impaired people's ability to tell
what people sound like based on listening to someone speak. I was inspired
to do this project by my mom's best friend who is blind and she has the cool
ability to guess what people look like simply by listening to them speak.
She's right a lot of the time! I'd like to test whether or not blind people
would be better at this then sighted people. I hypothesize that people who
are blind will guess more accuratly.

This is where I need help. In order for my results to be scientific, I need
at least 20 people who are blind to take the test. The test will be
listening to a video of 10 different people saying the pledge of allegience.
In between each video will be a few short multiple choice questions to
answer about the appearance of the reader. For example: The speaker's face
shape would be characterized as: A. Long B. Round, etc.

I can either meet with the test subject to give the test, or I can send a
dvd of the readers and the questionairre in digital format. I am simply in
need of volunteers. My teachers have told me that my project is very unique
and quite interesting. There is a lot of neuroscientists that are testing
all sorts of theories regarding human beings use of their senses. I am very
interested in the idea that when one sense is lost, that another will become
stronger and a person's abilities can become extraordinary.

Would you be able to assist me in finding volunteers? I am quite desparate
as the project has a due date that's fast approaching. The only requirment
is that all subjects must be blind (inability to make out face shape, etc)
and I would like them to be blind the majority of their lives, if not all.

Any assistance or advice would be so appreciated! Thank you!!

Sincerely,

Brynna Neal
7th grade student
