[Greater-baltimore] Orioles on the Radio

Hello everyone,

I just spoke with the Program Director at CBS Radio. He advised me that
they are running a 28 second delay on Oriole games. 20 seconds of the
delay are for profanity reasons, the other 8 seconds is for HD FM
Transmition purposes. He said they can and will omit the 20 second
profanity delay for us to start. He said that they are looking into a way
to reduce or even omit the other 8 seconds. The problem is a technical
issue. For those who are not very savvy with radio transmission, WBAL,
which is an AM station, can very easily run a live broadcast because it is
analog and on the AM band. CBS, on the other hand, being a digital FM
station is handcuffed by the particular fact that they are a digital
broadcast and the delay is set up in their transmission process. He said
that they are in the process of trying to find out if they can bypass the
other 8 seconds and make the Oriole broadcasts real time.

I thanked him for his effort and he said that he would keep me updated on
the possibility of getting rid of the other delay.

As more info rolls in, I will keep you updated.
