Hello all,

Our accountability for accessible K-12 education bills are stuck in their
committees. We need a big push on these bills because the legislative
session is almost over. Everyone should write to the following people on
Monday or Tuesday, March 29 & 30:

In the senate, write to the Senate President, Bill Ferguson, and to Senator
Paul Pinsky, Chairman of the Education Health and Environmental Affairs
Committee. Their emails are bill.ferguson at senate.state.md.us and
paul.pinsky at senate.state.md.us. Ask them to take action on SB921.

In the house, write to Delegate Anne Kaiser, Chairman of the Ways and Means
Committee, at anne.kaiser at house.state.md.us, and Delegate Eric Ebersole,
Chairman of the Early Childhood Subcommittee in the House Ways and Means
Committee, at eric.ebersole at house.state.md.us. Ask them to take action on
HB1181.

Here are some points to make in your email:

   - Blind students in grades K-12 need access to the curriculum. The
accountability measures in SB921/HB1181 will achieve this goal.
   - The Maryland General Assembly claims to be concerned about education.
It is unfair to leave blind students behind.
   - Blind students need a quality education, too.
   - As leaders in the senate and house, please take action on these bills.

The National Federation of the Blind of Maryland knows that blindness is
not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Everyday we raise
the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
