"You must do the thing you think you can not do!" - Eleanor Roosevelt

Former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt was born October 11, 1884, in New York. She was an American political figure, diplomat, and activist. Breaking the traditional patterns of Frist Lady, Roosevelt held several press conferences discussing social issues, traveled to different parts of the country visiting relief projects, and surveyed working and living conditions because of the Depression. She became an advocate for the rights and needs of the poor, minorities, and of the disadvantaged.

Eleanor Roosevelt advocated for expanding roles for women in the workplace and their rights by becoming a board member of the New York State League of Women Voters and served on the national-legislation committee. She also helped to create "She-She-She Camps" for unemployed women in the United States as a counterpart to the Civilian Conservation Corps programs. These camps provided an opportunity for women to work in conservation and forestry, which was a mainly a male dominated field.

In the postwar years, Roosevelt continued to champion the civil rights movement, equal rights for women, and the social reforms to uplift the poor. Her tireless advocacy for social and economic justice made her one of the most admired women of the 20th century.
