Hello Ken,
My ereader connects perfectly with my phone. Here is what should work.
1: Turn on the ereader and get into the Braille Display option on the main menu
2. Go to add Bluetooth device and press enter. It should bring up a message telling you what the ereader should be called in your Bluetooth settings.
3. Open Bluetooth on your phone. Look for the ereader name and number and double tap on it.
4. The phone should make a noise letting you know the display is connected.
5. Then exit out of the "add a device" and go into "connected devices. It should say USB, and the next choice should be your iPhone. Press enter on your iPhone name. The ereader will most likely say "Please Wait." If you press the far right thumb key however, it should begin displaying the text that is on your phone.
This is different from the way you used to have to connect Braille displays. You used to have to go into the VoiceOver settings in order to add a display, but that does not work anymore, at least not for newer displays such as the ereader.
I hope this helps. If you still have trouble, email me off list at

And I'll see if I can help you. It definitely should be able to connect however.
Melissa

Subject: [Greater-Baltimore] trouble with the braille reader
Hi baltimore chapter members a question. I have noticed that the braille r= eader can't connect to the Iphone. I have unpaired it and for some reason = the phone can't even see the reader. Apple accessibility and I both agree t= hat it is likely a software incompaddablity issue this hapened before I had= updated to IOS 18.5 but it still didn't work with 18.5. I know MD was one= of the pilot testing states and everything else about the reader works fin= e and the phone still sees other things. is anyone else on list using the = humanware reader and does anyone know when or if they will have an update? = I'm getting conflicting answers from out tech division some say they are h= aving problems others say no and one suggested resetting the phone back to = factory default as a last resort. I don't think that is an option since th= e reader has worked for several years paired with the phone any thoughts? = I'm going to give humanware a buzz tomorrow.
