Friends,
Our chapter has been working with Arteasy (a new local art studio owned by
Ellie Flock) and the South Baltimore Business Alliance, which received a
Maryland State Arts Council grant for a public art installation. They are
working with Game of Frogs, which is a local art initiative by Andrew
Simpson, and are doing a grant kickoff on Saturday, 3:00-5:00 P.M. eastern
at Cross Street market. This is a great opportunity to support accessible
local art and the nearby businesses. Tickets are $20.
Purchasing a ticket will give you the opportunity to decorate two small
concrete frog statues-one you can take home, and the other which you'll
leave at the event for installation around the city. There will be tactile
elements-puffy paint, stickers, Braille stickers, adhesive gems, glue, pipe
cleaners, and air-dry clay which you can use to make hats and other
accessories. Andrew has also finished his textured foam prototype for a
large concrete frog which will be installed somewhere in the city (yet to be
determined) in a few months. The big frog will be installed in a few months,
but the little frogs you decorate at the event will be installed around the
city earlier. I would love if we could have some folks from the chapter
attend to provide feedback so that we can help put accessibility on the map.
You don't have to stay the whole time, and there are plenty of restaurants
and local businesses. You can purchase a ticket here

Ellie and/or Andrew are currently planning to be at our May chapter meeting,
so please come with commentary about accessible art. I'm really excited to
be helping with this project, and I'd also like to thank President
Riccobono, president Danielsen, Marguerite Woods, and Cheryl Fogle Hatch for
representing our chapter right alongside me-my expertise is limited, and I
have very much valued their input as we move forward.
The official address of Cross Street Market is 1065 S Charles Street, but if
you go in that entrance, you'll have to walk through Watershed, which is a
seafood restaurant with a slightly complicated layout. I prefer the Light
Street entrance, which is right on the opposite side since Light and Charles
are parallel. The City Link Silver stops right there, or you can get a
rideshare to the Dunkin which is about a block away, and either walk from
there or ask the driver to stop at the Cross Street Market entrance. The
Dunkin's address is 1100 Light street. When you walk into Cross Street
Market, you'll walk about halfway through-it's a long hallway with
restaurants and vendors on either side. The event will be roughly in the
middle, right by the Taharka Brothers ice cream place-you are likely to be
able to smell the ice cream cones.
I am planning to be there early. Feel free to call/text with questions. My
number is (805) 372-9550. If we haven't communicated by call/text before,
please include your first and last name so I don't mark you as spam. Thanks.
The event is Saturday, April 25, 3:00-5:00 p.m. Eastern. Purchase tickets in
advance

Best,
cricket
P.S. This event is very family-friendly-kids are welcome, and please invite
friends as well.
