> Community Resource Highlight: Guide for Deaf and Hard of Hearing College Students from Intelligent
>
> According to the National Deaf Center of Postsecondary Outcomes, deaf and hard of hearing students are more likely to take online courses. This preference could be due to the flexibility of setting up their accommodations like online captioning and ASL interpreters.
>
> Despite the benefits of online courses, there are still challenges for deaf and hard of hearing students.
>
> Our guide helps deaf and hard of hearing students learn about online accommodations colleges offer to comply with the American Disabilities Act, popular listening devices and applications, and scholarships. We also provide a list of the 5 best colleges for students with hearing disabilities as well as additional helpful resources.

> The Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities launches Request for Proposals (RFP) to support the ADA Transition Plan:
> The MOPD worked over the past 12 months on a proposal to improve ADA access for residents, employees, and visitors. In March of this year, the MOPD submitted an application for the Operations Transformation Fund (OTF) which is a City initiative that supports equitable projects for Philadelphians. MOPD’s proposal includes the creation of an ADA Unit to propel the implementation of low-cost corrective actions from the 2020 ADA Transition Plan. In July, the OTF board announced the results where our proposal was selected! Learn more about the OTF and the additional projects here.
>
> To get the project started the MOPD has published an RFP for a consultant firm for the project. You can view the RFP here I (phila.gov). Full Contract information can be found here. The RFP closes on 7/26/22. We will continue to provide updates throughout the project that will conclude in July of 2023.

> The Mayor’s Office is proud to support the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) 32nd Anniversary. On July 26th we celebrate this important civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public. The purpose of the law is to make sure that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. #ADA32 #ThanksToTheADA
