Here is a message from Septa:

As you may be aware, we are experiencing a problem with some valid SEPTA student, senior, paratransit and reduced fare cards that causes them to be declined at turnstiles, bus fareboxes and Regional Rail readers. We are advising customers that they do not need to replace their valid cards, and are asking that they please hold off on requests for replacement cards at this time.

We expect to see a large number of passengers and students return to our system on Monday, January 6. if you are having issues, please connect with the operator of the vehicle, nearest SEPTA cashier, or ambassador. Thank you for your patience and continued support during this time.
