<h1 style="margin-top:16px"><span style="font-size:24pt"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Celebrating Holiday Heroes and Contributing to the Next Generation</span></span></h1>
<p><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:14.0pt">This holiday season we are celebrating the many holiday heroes who help raise expectations for the nation’s blind. There are so many parents, teachers, advocates, and people simply living the lives they want who help the National Federation of the Blind achieve its mission. Let’s celebrate their stories and share their positive philosophies on blindness.</span></span></p>
<h2><span style="font-size:20pt"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Meet Alex</span></span></h2>
<p><span style="font-size:14pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif">Alex was an active member of the military for ten years before he became blind. He shared:</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif"><span style="font-size:14pt"><img alt="A black man wearing a camouflage army uniform and hat. I used to drive for fun. When I attended my first National Association of Blind Veterans meeting, I was impressed by the overall positivity and willingness to help no matter the circumstances. That attitude helps overcome the biggest misconception about blindness, which
is that blindness is the end of the world."</span></span></p>
<h2><span style="font-size:20pt"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Meet Lizzy</span></span></h2>
<p><span style="font-size:14pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif">Lizzy Muhammad-Park, winner of a 2021 NFB national scholarship, said:</span></span></p>

Blind mentors provide leadership opportunities and advise me on independent international travel. With the same amount, the Federation can distribute early Braille literacy materials to families.
