[gui-talk] Google Settlement with Authors, Publishers Will Have Positive Results for the Blind

In the article about this I read in the New York Times a day or two ago, it
said that the books under discussion in this instance aren't all books, nor
books that are for sale at Borders, Amazon or by independent bricks and
mortar booksellers. As I recall, the agreement pertains only to books that,
while still under copyright protection, are out of print and no longer
available for sale. that's not exactly what this announcement makes it sound
like.

Also, I remember reading something about how, under this system, if you find
a title in the database, you can see only a small preview of it, whether
just a passage or as much as 20 pages, depending on the outcome. I didn't
get the impression that suddenly all the books included under the agreement
would suddenly be online in their full content, as if they were Gutenberg or
Bookshare titles, available in their entirety.

I may have some things wrong, here, and I hope someone who's better informed
than I am will offer correction. thanks.
