One way I've solved that problem is to have a sightling make the task bar
slightly longer.  I also think there's a desk top tool bar which you can
uncheck.

Hello everyone,

Is there any way to hide the desktop unless I hit Windows-M, as was the case

in XP.  One of the annoyances to me is that the desktop can be verychatty, 
even when the focus is not on it.
