[gui-talk] Cell phone questions:

Andy,

I'm an LG phone user and a member of the Blind users list I recently
provided the subscribe address for. I'd just like to make one small
amendment to the below. and that's the fact that this ENV 3 is LG's latest,
but not in the overall sense of being its one and only newest offering. As I
tried to say, badly, in an earlier post, there's a whole line of LG phone
that are current and worth considering for their accessibility features.
like the LG VX 8360. For instance. it's not been superseded by the ENV 3.
It's just not as fancy in terms of having the qwerrty keyboard and generally
being more like a PDA, so to put it.

that's all. There are a number of LG phones available through Verizon right
now, and not just this one. It's simply the latest in its own model part of
the LG line, and supersedes the ENV 1 and ENV 2.

I hope that's a helpful distinction for me to have made.

Joel

I believe that the current LG offering from Verizon is the ENV3. It has
both a standard keypad and QWERTY keyboard. All basic functions talk
including getting info like battery status, signal strength, etc,
creating and adding and deleting from the address book, talking caller
ID, and it will also read text messages. The main thing that does not
talk is Email and internet. I have seen it on specials for as little as
$79.

Steve, are the LG phones reasonably accessible? Can you add contacts,
access its address book, and enter voice prompts without sighted
assistance?
I'm investigating the possibility that many of us can avoid paying for
and
learning an additional program
If these rudimentary functions can be performed without outside help.
P.S.
if you feel one of these phones is accessible, what's its version
number?
thanks

Joel,

My family currently uses two LG phones that have some accessibility
built in
through Sprint. According to Sprint, the LG Rumor 2 can read text
messages
but I have
not figured out how yet and can find nothing in the manual. Even though
the
list you mention is oriented to Verizon, possibly there is enough
similarities between the
various LG models that someone may have ideas. Have you already
provided
the subscription address and I just missed it?

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson
