You haven't been charged for a user key because you're using one of their
units but RFB And D probably would if you wanted to play those files on your
computer or portable player.

Albert,

I don't understand. Now, I should say up front that I don't use a Daisy
player in order to access files either from the NLS BARD program nor
anything I read on the NFB Newsline site. But I don't know which of these
you are actually referring to, below, although you do specify NLS in your
message.

But I just don't know what you're talking about. I've never been charged a
fee of any sort, nor issued any sort of key, whatever that is, for either of

these services. Could you or someone tell me what it is I'm not
understanding, here, and what it has to do with Daisy, and what that has to
do with whether Freedom Scientific has decided to give away their FS Reader
soon? My head is spinning. I can make no sense of this.

Presently NLS says their publishers keep the bar raised on player
accessibility. This is how they justify charging use $10 for each user key
and why their files can't just be played on a computer.

Lets not kid ourselves that its a free daisy player, you can't download
it for a computer without JAWS, or run on another Mobile platform. What
we should be doing however, is expressing that this player should be
recognized and made legal for NLS and RFB DTB(s). The concept that NLS
books must only be played on "special" devices is simply crazy, outdated
thinking that does NOT, in any way represent the wishes of the public
they are supposed to be serving.
