[gui-talk] traffic on the list

ALL:

Beating to death this topic too.

The signal to noise ratio on this list is decreasing unfortunately.

The Promotion list is generally good for higher signal to noise ratio.

Ages ago this was supposed to be a geeky area to talk graphical user
interface questions, but it is difficult to separate out the other
aspects of access to and use of electronic and information technology
from one portion of that.

I would certainly think a new list might be formed to cover topics like
market research.

Might I suggest some general ground rules:

1. If responding to a question, read other responses first and don't
duplicate.
2. don't ask questions on the list first unless you've done some real
research first. Doesn't mean we don't want to help, means you should
help yourself before poking the ant hill.
3. If you don't know much about a topic, don't answer a question with
guesses, it isn't helpful.
4. don't answer questions with questions unless you want to bring out
more clarity. Otherwise start your own thread.
5. If an exchange goes beyond three back and forth, its probably past
time to go off-list.
6. Braking my own ground rule but it isn't in effect now--if attempting
to stem the flow of a topic, it might be best to just ignore it. We do
have a moderator who can step in on occasion, but its generally best for
moderators to not use their moderating hammers often, or lists are not
useful. Ahem...

So lets slow down, look before we ask and respond, and take a deep
breath on occasion.

Sigh.
