    Will, Albert and others:

Thanks for your prompt and helpful replies. So far, I've seen the listing of
the one product mentioned by name and what little description and single
review there is of it on Amazon, then I've read the pertinent article in the
AFB's Access World publication. as everyone knows, doing all that was a more
time-consuming and laborious process for this average Jaws user than it
sounds like. So I'll have to try Albert's suggestion of the NFB for reviews
later. But I used the Jaws append to clipboard feature and will paste in
three useful lines below. Before I do, I want to suggest that it's important
in the first instance not just to go to the AFB site unless you can easily
figure out which global navigation link will lead to the Access World
section. I happened to have had it bookmarked already as a Favorite in my
browser, so that wasn't so hard.

Then I had to find the search function on that page that will lead to
whatever articles in the publication include at least an important mention
of the thing you're looking for a report about. Okay. I'll paste in what I
found so far. Then I'll go on to the NFB site to see if, anywhere, they also
mention this category of product and especially this model.

I was just interrupted by a phone call. But I think the first URL is the
address of the page of the Access World site where the search functions is,
and the second is the page where I found results, or the links to wseveral
articles. I'm not going to retrace my steps now, but anyone interested
should clikc on the first of the two links and see what kind of page loads,
and then go on from there.

Thanks again, Albert, for the suggestions. Now I'll look at the NFB to see
if that same product Will smith first brought to my attention is mentioned
there, also.

I'd look in two places for the best product reviews. The first would be at
the American Foundation's site where you'll find Access World their
bimonthly consumer product review. The second would be the medical section
of the NFB. They review a number of talking products there. I've found
their recommendations to be accurate as well. www.afb.org and www.nfb.org
If you decide on a talking thermometer I've found those at pharmacies are
cheaper and just as good. Doctor's referrals may get you all of them free
or with a co pay.

I've noticed products in this category in online blind catalogues like
LS&S, Maxi-aids, and I'll bet other companies sell them, too. But last time
I looked was a long time ago, when the idea of needing such things seemed
pretty remote. But I've got serious heart problems now, and not only do I
need to be helped finding these units, but I'd really appreciate comments
from experienced users about how accessible/usable they are and how accurate

they are.

thanks to anyone who can help. I don't want to just go online "window
shopping" but have no guide to what's good and what's dangerously
inaccurate, what's reasonably priced and what's a rip-off, and all that.

thanks very much.
