Joe,

BKS is indeed a proprietary filetyype.  In order to make the books work, one 
had to download an Unpack tool from the
Bookshare site.  Only members who have logged in can do this.  There was 
both compression and encryption here.

Second, Zip files can been encrypted.  When I go into Windows Explorer and 
Extract All Files, I am prompted for my  password.
