Albert,
Thanks! ah, well at least that makes a little more sense! Was this recent
update offered that soon after the last one they gave us? I wasn't paying
attention. It seems like a couple of months. Maybe I just forgot it was only

last week or something. Well, now I'll stop making fun of the expression. I
can see where calling it a hot fix would sound properly important, emergency

style, to them. More on the order of a safety recall of a product and the
shipping of replacements to buyers so whatever it was wouldn't poison the
baby or make the car explode.

LOL

I think hot refers to the fix usually being delivered quickly. Soon after
the last release.

I see. Sounds a little overdramatic to my ear, but that's no big surprise. I

don't think I'm alone in being bemused or even annoyed by hi-tech language
that often strikes one as hyperbolic (in this case, as the expression
signals Emergency! which it probably isn't, to simply illiterate and
irrational. Yes, language evolves and changes with usage. No, we're not all
going to start speaking and writing in a new way that mimics hi tech lingo.
A little bit will leak into general usage, but most of it won't. But there I

go again, my inner Reagan chides my inner Jimmy Carter. Who cares about
linguistic side trips? You must be a English teacher or a lawyer or a
elitist type of person who thinks too much. Pointy heads, we used to call
'em back in the day.

Okay,Okay, okay. I just gotta wonder, do I have to wear protective oven
gloves to handle one of them hot fixes when it's tossed to me like a glowing

rivet?

you gotta love it.

I believe it means the fix was released soon after the last update and
that's it's relatively small. It's common computer jargon.

Okay. So what's the origin of their using "hot" in the expression? Is it
supposed to make it sound really urgent and important? You think?

It is a minor patch, usually meant to fix a bug or do something else
minor -- not a major new release.
