[gui-talk] anti-virus software interferes with screenreader?

Although it is certainly possible, it seems unlikely that NOD32 is causing this since I have read on the Window-Eyes lists that they have found it to work well with 
Window-Eyes.  However, when a full scan of your hard drive is in process, this can slow the response for other applications, including screen readers, a lot.  Also, if 
you don't have a lot of memory, like 500 megabytes, this can have an effect as well.

There is currently a public beta of Window-Eyes 7.2, and it might be worth downloading and trying that.  I believe some loss of speech issues have been resolved in 
the public beta and it is stable.
