Hi all --
I got a talking caller id for our home a few years ago and it has worked 
quite well -- no complaints.  In fact, my sighted family members have 
appreciated it as much as I do.

However, I notice that when they look at a standard caller id display, 
besides the numbers and dates they also see a person's identity and whether 
or not the person is calling from a wireless phone.
I am wondering why, when speech is already available for a caller id, it 
does not go the seemingly small step further and speak the name and other 
information?
Is there a talking caller id out there that does? Or even a program for the 
computer that could do this? (perhaps not the latter as the computer would 
have to know when the phone was ringing.)
Any tips on a good caller id that is a little more expensive than the $16 I 
think this one cost, that will speak the desired information?
