[gui-talk] Conferenceing software

Hello Steve and everyone,

The audio quality wasn't the greatest and there is no way to control the
player volume. We had to do it from the Windows Volume Control. Give me
Windows Media any day. Windows Media Streams can be received by just about
anyone, the audio quality is far superior to that of these Web conferencing
packages, and the player volume is easily regulated via the keyboard. If we
believe in doing things first-class let's not be afraid to invest in
producing top-quality broadcasts of our state conventions and other
federation events. Provided transportation issues can be resolved plans are
in the works to stream the 2010 NFB of Texas Convention.

Here in SC when we streamed our convention this year. We used ustream.tv to
host the convention and it was free!

Unfortunately skype has a limit of 5 participants at a time. Is that a
problem?

We're exploring the feasibility of live streaming our Alaska state NFB
convention in October. Do you have any suggestions for a good speech
friendly application for providing the stream and speech friendly access for
those wanting to hear it? I've thought about a Skype group but have never
tried that. I've done some conferencing with Skype but at this time I
suspect it would be difficult to have them interact with the on site
participants.

I've thought about Winamp Shoutcast but I believe that could likely use up
more bandwidth than we could have from the hotel.
