[gui-talk] Windows XP log function?

Hi to All!
1. As I sit here studying the Chess board for my next devastating move, I hear my disk head moving.
2. At bootstrap, my screenreader takes more than a minute to start talking, something else is 
happening on my computer.
Is there a log function that I can turn on to capture system activity?
I know that the "Idle" process and OE checking for mail will cause disk activity, but this seems a 
bit much. Can anyone help?
