[gui-talk] BrailleNote Apex with Android BrailleBack

The release notes for BrailleBack don't indicate support for the Apex. Quite a number of displays are supported, but not as many as on iOS. You would have to install BrailleBack before you could proceed with pairing a Bluetooth braille display; this pairing process is somewhat tricky.

Hi Dean,

Can I connect the Apex with my Android Phone? I would need to download BrailleBack on the phone first, right?

Kris

I have seen this periodically with different braille displays and the iPhone. It's one reason why I'm not on the "let's dump all braille notetakers" bandwagon. I would try a different app for receiving the text, like Notes, to see if that helps. I would also reset the phone with the quick method of pressing the power button five times quickly. Once this starts, I've found resetting to be the only way out of it. I have experienced this with the Refresh-a-Braille and Apex. So far, not as much with the U2. And I have seen it with the eGS and 4S. I do not know the explanation, but it is highly frustrating, because when I have it happen, not only are spaces either skipped or inserted at random moments, but characters are back-translated in the middle of words, rendering the text useless.

Folks,

Lately I have been using my Freedom Scientific Focus 14 Braille display (including Braille keyboard) Bluetooth connected to my iPhone 5 running IOS 7.0.3, and the AFB Access Note application to take minutes at various meetings. I am noticing that often my spaces are not passed through to the note. I use both the grade 1 and grade 2 modes. I know there is buffering; however, sometimes I get entire lines without spaces. Have others noticed this? Any solutions?
