As David wrote, maximizing makes sense on some occasions, though actually
JAWS should read an opened message. 
Certainly you may need to maximize while working in Excel when you want to
switch between worksheets (Ctrl+Shift+s in JAWS). If you know that the
document contains more than a one worksheet, but JAWS, when you press
Ctrl+Shift+s, says there are no worksheets, press Alt+Space and maximize,
even if the maximize option is announced as inactive.
