[GUI-Talk] Hotkey to start Jaws

My summary of the Ctrl+Alt+J situation to date:

You can manually assign this keystroke to the "JAWS 2018" or similar icon on your Desktop: Type Alt+Enter on the icon to open Properties, Tab to the Shortcut Key box, type J or Ctrl+Alt+J, Tab to OK and press Enter. You may
have to go through one or two more dialogs before the assignment is complete. On office systems, a system administrator may have to do this for you.

When JAWS is updated though, this setting tends to get wiped out and require reentry. This is unfortunate but has been true for a while.

In the old days of Windows XP, we could get around the above wipe-out by creating a Desktop shortcut that ran "net start JFWService" and assigning Ctrl+Alt+J to that shortcut. This no longer works in modern Windows versions,
and I don't know of a replacement for this strategy.

It would be cool if "jaws" in the Windows Run box would run the latest installed copy. That would allow for a shortcut to be made again that would not be wiped out by a JAWS update.

Ya, I remember that, for Jaws 13, then I went a few years without an upgrade

it.

for years the hot key was alt-control-j, and you can change it by typing
alt-enter (while on your jaws version), then tabbing to hot key and typing
what you want it to be, tab to "apply" and hit the spacebar or enter. It
has always been that way.

Hope this helps.

Cordially, Ms. E. Kirtley

My trick for starting jaws is to hit windows+D followed by J and then hit
enter.
But then I don't keep anything else on the desktop that starts with J.
