When you have no speech it would probably be worthwhile to press ctrl-Windows-Enter to start Narrator and see what's going on.

hello all
i ask this question to surface pro 6 owners sometimes when i plug in headphones, i still get sound coming from the computer's speaker, though the computer shows that headphones are connected. or i strat listening on headphones and the speech switches to speaker.
also sometimes when i shut down the coputer sign in, i get no speech from jaws. i have to use the power button to shut down and start over again before jaws speaks again.
