I have a 15-year-old Epson scanner that I use with Kurzweil on Windows 10. Never had to get new drivers.  Works just fine.

But before you upgrade to Windows 10, be sure that Windows 10 drivers are available for your scanner by visiting the manufacturer's customer support page.  If your scanner is very old, it may no longer be supported and so there may not be any Windows 10 drivers for it, in which case you will need to buy a new one in order to use Kurzweill 1000 with Windows 10.
