Opening a new window means that you can use the ALT+TAB key combination to move to the different windows. Opening a new tab means that to move between the various screens in Firefox, you have to use CTRL+TAB.
I don't know how that translates visually<smile>.

assume that it is some kind of visual thing that isn't apparent to a
