Some of the questions require you to hit several buttons to select several words to answer the question. The iPhone does not register multiple buttons to answer one question. If a question requires only one button press, then double tapping that one button does work.
The rotor does not have an actions item in the Duolingo application.
I recently browsed the Applevis web site, and I could not find any comments on questions that required several button presses to answer the a question.

When you say that, iOS does not respond to the button pushes, do you mean that it does not respond when you double tap? Have you tried both using explore by touch, and using the flicking right / left gestures? Are there actions you an perform with the rotor, using the rotor action? That is, if you know what I a refering to?
Also if you search for Duo Lingo on the apple vis web site, you can find a lot of useful comments and postings from other people regarding is accessibility. You may find the answer to your questions there as well, so you don't have to re post it.

web site and iOS application to learn Spanish. While I can answer the questions on the web site, using Firefox and Windows 10, with difficulty, it can be done.
I am unable to answer the questions using the Duolingo iOS application. For example, if you must translate the phrase "el hombre" into English, the answer is "the man". In the application, you are given several words that are buttons. You must hit the "the" button and the "man" button. The application does not recognize these two button pushes.
I have not found a way to contact the developers from the web site nor from the application.
I have not found a clear way to ask the question on the AppleVis
