Aloha, NFB Ohana:

The House Committee on Labor & Public Employment has scheduled a hearing for Senate Bill 3023, Senate Draft 2, which is one of our bills to end the payment of subminimum wages to workers with disabilities.

In the Senate Committee on Ways and Means, this bill was amended to include a study on the effects of raising the minimum wage to $15. This is unrelated to our cause, but it still fits into the bill title, "Relating to Minimum Wage." Many advocates on our side of this bill across the state are arguing that this amendment simply confuses the two issues and should be stricken from the bill as we move forward.

I have a little bit of coordination to do before sending out official guidance on how to explain our requested amendments in a written testimony, but I will be back in touch soon.

In the meantime, here is the hearing notification:

Since the hearing is on Tuesday, March 20, at 9 am, this means that our testimony is due before Monday, March 19, at 9 am. I plan to submit mine over the weekend and encourage you all to plan to do the same.

Every person who shows up to this hearing is going to make a difference. This committee knows that they are elected by numbers of people who turn out on election day, so we need to show them numbers on the hearing day.

A hui hou,

Justin
